ABOUT
The Nomadic Art Institute is a non-profit cultural organisation dedicated to contemporary artistic research and experimentation through the languages of contemporary art.
Based in Sardinia and active in the municipalities of Laerru and Martis, in the Anglona area, The Nomadic Art Institute considers the territory as an active field of research. The landscape, history and memory of the area provide starting points for new questions and the development of new forms of shared research, which have so far taken shape through the cultural programme of the Pinacoteca Contemporanea and the creation of the Ethno’s Arti Visive festival.
The name of the organisation stems from a reflection on the “nomadic” nature of cultural experience in Sardinia, a condition rooted in the island’s geography. In a vast and geographically diverse territory, access to exhibitions, talks and opportunities for exchange is often dependent on the possibility of travelling, covering significant distances and connecting different places. In this sense, movement also becomes a way of acquiring knowledge: crossing the territory, encountering different communities, people and cultural spaces within the geographical boundaries of an island.
The Nomadic Art Institute is a space in motion: a space for research through the languages of art that is not defined by a physical location or a single format, but by the relationships it is able to foster. It also reflects the ambition to develop, over time, a project capable of building an ongoing network of relationships among artists, curators, cultural practitioners, communities and territories.
The programme of The Nomadic Art Institute is directed by curator Eleonora Angiolini and Davide Tuseddu, a cultural practitioner who has been active in the area for many years and is the artistic director of Ethno’s Festival Letterario. Their different experiences in curatorial practice, cultural production and place-based projects come together in a programme that connects contemporary artistic research on an international scale with the local territory.
