OUR PHILOSOPHY
At the heart of Martis, a small village in northern Sardinia, the residency is conceived as a space dedicated to research, practice and listening. A place where artists can step away from the pace of everyday life and devote greater focus to their work.
The quietness of the landscape, the intimate scale of the village and its proximity to nature invite artists to slow down, observe and allow their thoughts to follow unexpected paths. The residency seeks to preserve precisely this possibility: a space to pause, reflect, experiment, engage in conversation and return to one’s work with a renewed perspective.
At the same time, the residency does not intend to be an isolated space. One of the programme’s aims is to bring artistic practice into dialogue with the village, its stories and the people who live there. The relationship with the local community and with the wider territory of Sardinia is an integral part of the experience, developed through opportunities for encounter, exchange and sharing.
With the belief that artistic growth emerges from the possibility of devoting uninterrupted time to studio practice, all the activities and opportunities accompanying the residency are designed to enrich the creative process without interfering with it.
