GUSTAVO MARTINI
Born in 1987, Brazilian visual artist Gustavo Martini is based in Milan and explores the relationship between perception, space and contemporary complexity, developing a minimalist visual language that reduces form to its fundamental elements: lines, planes and volumes. Through rigorous compositions and a strong focus on spatiality, Martini transforms social dynamics, perceptual structures and complex cultural phenomena into works of striking visual clarity. His practice reflects on the need to navigate a world characterised by a constant overload of information, proposing an aesthetic grounded in synthesis and essentiality.
Before devoting himself fully to artistic practice, he worked in the field of conceptual design, receiving the Next Generation Designer of the Year award from Wallpaper magazine and Officine Panerai.
His works have been presented at internationally renowned institutions and venues, including Triennale Milano, Museo MAXXI and Palazzo Doria Pamphilj in Rome, and the Arsenale in Venice. His work has also been featured in numerous publications specialising in art, design and contemporary culture.
The research developed during his two-week residency in Martis will culminate in the creation of a site-specific work for the Pinacoteca Contemporanea di Laerru.
This is the first artistic commission of its kind to be developed as part of the museum’s programme. It is included in the second edition of Laerru Contemporanea, a project promoted by the Municipality of Laerru with the support of Fondazione di Sardegna.
